The Narrow Boat
Four days on the London canals
Now is not the time to gloat but we're off on a narrow boat
The boat is Jen and Robin's craft and we're in charge. Well that seems daft
We barely know the bow from stern but we will quickly have to learn
To move the thing along the way and park it at the end of day
The engine will seem very strange with noises that could quite derange
A land locked couple such as us, who are quite prone to make a fuss
If something minor should go wrong. Oh we would create such a song
And dance if something went amiss and we sank in the great abyss
Of deep canals close by the Thames. My God there will be fun and games
King's Cross is where we will begin the journey that might well take in
The occasional chaotic scene. The language could turn quite obscene
Ahead lies the Symplegades which could well bring us to our knees.
I might be a stupid fella - catch a rope in the propeller
What if I should lose the anchor? My goodness I'd feel such a ... fool
But like the Argonauts we'll go into the dodgy tidal flow
Like Drake, Magellan, Pugwash we - will bravely face our destiny
We'll chug forever and a day unless a lock gets in our way
And what then? Aye there's the rub. We'll head off to the nearest pub
