The Robin and Blackbird

I have a robin on my rod

He wants my maggots - cheeky sod

A blackbird tries to muscle in

The robin scowls in great chagrin

There's enough for two, no doubt

But robin wants the blackbird out

He flits and flutters, chirps and sings

He flaps with both his tiny wings

The blackbird backs off for a while

The robin struts his red breast style

He's master of this small domain

But blackbird returns once again

There is a stand off - bird on bird.

I am silent - not a word

Their black eyes meet. They both advance

The robin's smaller - not a chance

But there was David and Goliath

The robin's small but still he trieth

Sharp and quick he wins the day

I watch the blackbird fly away
