A Birthday Rhyme for Joanne
Joanne, a certain age has now been reached but do not worry
It's when you get to my age that it starts to be a pain
Try and take your time and not be always in a hurry
You know that you can never relive all these years again.
I hope you have a great day and that all you want you get
All your family and friends wish you the best
Growing older shouldn't cause you to break out into a sweat
Think of how you have developed and progressed
Keep smiling, keep on loving, keep on doing what you do
As a daughter, mother, sister, wife and friend
And expect the unexpected. To yourself always be true
Then the problems you may face you will transcend
Have a really happy birthday eat the cake and drink the wine
It's time for you to chill out and have fun
Make the most of all the celebrations and you must resign
Yourself to next year when you will be forty one!
Happy Eighteenth Jake
Jake's achieved his eighteenth year - now reached majority
He can claim he's done quite well with some authority
His academic record is a wonder and it's true
He's outperformed his Uncle Bez and Auntie Carol too
And as for sport he's quite the champ his rugby is sublime
('though I could tackle him with ease but do not have the time)
I'll let it pass. I would not want him shaking in his boots
To see me diving in. Am I too old for these pursuits?
He's quite the charming fellow. The girls know this for a fact
His chat up lines are legendary - just see how they react
He's had to cope with brothers who've been fun, he must admit.
Each one in turn can be a pain or quite a bloomin sh .... ow off
But really they've been mates to him as he's been growing older
And they were kind and thoughtful when he knackered up his shoulder
So now he's off to Uni where the fun will be intense
He might have to do some studying. (That doesn't make much sense)
I'm sure he'll be successful but I think I have to add
Although it will be brilliant he will miss his mum and dad
So happy birthday Jake and may your life be filled with joy
Laugh and smile absorb it all now you're no more a boy
It's time to spread your wings, to fly the nest and find your feet
To have the best time of your life. Now that is really neat
And when you're propping up the student bar with all your mates
Or arguing on politics in student style debates
Remember that your reasoning is influenced by beer
And when you wake next morning and you're feeling rather queer
You might be puzzled by that awful throbbing in your head
And wonder why a traffic cone is lying on your bed
Ev's Big Birthday
Oh Ev you're looking spritely,
Your movements are quite nifty
Your looking like a woman
Who has not yet turned fifty
I really shouldn't say it
You'll think that I am naughty
You've the figure of a woman
Who hasn't quite turned forty.
And here's a thing - your sparkling eyes
So cheeky and quite flirty
They glow just like a woman
Who hasn't quite turned thirty
You have mixed with rich and poor
The middle class and gentry
You're still a socialite for sure
And mingle like you're twenty
You still wear classy clothes and shoes
You still look cool in jeans
You carry off the latest styles
As though you're in your teens
And now it's March and once again
Another birthday's here
Don't count the decades - count the joys
The years will disappear
If you think about it
You have life on a plate
The next decade could be the best
I bet you just can't wait
So happy birthday Evelyn
May your cup overflow
Enjoy each day and lap it up
The future we don't know
Katie's Twelfth Birthday Limerick
There was a young girl name of Katie
Whose friends thought her sweet, kind and matey
And if you behold her
You'll see she's now older
In sixty eight years she'll be eighty
Gill's Fiftieth
Gillian, Oh Gillian
You are one in a million
Your tennis is a pleasure to behold
You serve like Sharapova
But you rarely get one over
Could it be that you are starting to get old?
Oh never, No! Oh never !
Please don’t think I’m being clever
You’re a star on court –
That clearly can be seen
You move like Samantha Stosa – (she is not a tennis poser)
You’re as good as any player on the scene
Your backhand drives are awesome
And I know that you have seen some
Better players slowly driven to defeat
By your crafty drop shot back slice
And your forehand cool as dry ice
Your playing style is really rather neat
Then there’s your work in language study
And your gardening that’s muddy
In a house that you have wanted for so long
And your skill in raising Dan
Who now has turned into a man.
He’s a good one (even though he is head strong!)
There’s plenty more I could say
But today’s a special birthday
Though there are other talents I could dwell upon
Let us say just have a great time
And despite this rather poor rhyme
May your successes just go on and on and on
Joshua 7
Think of the joys of turning seven and all the things you can do
Climbing and racing and charging about and making a hullabaloo
Hiding your stuff from your brothers' eyes when they want to play with your toys
Chasing the girls in the old school yard and playing great games with the boys
Splashing about in a pool with your Gran and beating up Granddad too.
Eating some chocolates you've hidden away. Covering Eli in glue
Tying up Benjamin with bits of string. Driving with dad in the car
Heading for town with the money you've saved. Leaving the loo door ajar
Reading with Mum when the rest are in bed. Staying up late as you can.
Farting horrendously, catching us out. Can somebody pass me a fan?
We're off to the theatre later this year. 'Mathilda' is your birthday treat
A fun day in London with Grandma and me. We hope that you think that is neat
And so happy birthday young Joshua James. These seven years seem to have flown
We look at the photos - not so long ago. My goodness just look how you've grown
Keep smiling, keep laughing' enjoy every day. Make sure that you have lots of fun
Not too much TV or computers my boy. Spend plenty of time in the sun
Enjoy all your presents, eat plenty of cake. I'm sure that your day will be great
We envy your youth. You are younger than us. For you know we've just turned twenty eight
Georgina 4
Four years old. A special age
An age that's really cool
When pre-school times are left behind
And you head off to school
It will be fun, with games to play
And lessons to remember
But your birthday is in April
School's not until September
So now's the time to make the most
Of days of summer sun
And laugh and jump and play and skip
And sing and dance and run
No bells that ring to call you in
No sitting still in rows
No getting up too early
No choosing special clothes
Just time for you to grow some more
And be who you will be
A very special birthday
One of joyful liberty
