We barely know where to begin

For thirty years or more you’ve been

Our stalwart on the tennis scene

You’ve captained us through thick and thin

And always with that cheeky grin

Through dull committees you have sat

Checking every caveat

And every clause that numbs the brain

You do it and do not complain

Through hours of health and safety training

All is done without complaining

Your tennis skills, on court, we find

Just leave us trailing far behind

A shame about your bloomin’ knee

With exercise you’ll soon be free

To show the tennis world you’re gonna

Have thighs the size of Maradona

You’ll be back  to show us all

Just how to slice that tennis ball

And thanks for all the social stuff

It seems you cannot do enough

To ensure that we all have fun

You truly do help everyone

Your coaching  goes without a hitch

Like Federer and Djokovic

Or Radacanu  or Nadal

You raise our spirits and morale

Thank you Steve for all you’ve done

And soon you will be sixty one!
