Potholes

Potholes on the Broadway

Potholes in our street

Potholes on the bypass

Potholes ‘neath our feet

Gaping, gawping potholes

Like hungry mouths to feed

Cavernous capacious

The town has gone to seed

Potholes on the London Road

The busy A13

Enough to shake your bones to dust

Well you know what I mean

We met a taxi driver

Who took us to our door

He told us if it got much worse

He’d need a four by four

So if your dog is missing

Your very special pet

You’ll find it down a pothole

It’s howling from there yet

I came across a pothole

A dark and ragged vault

It seemed the ground had parted

Like the San Andreas Fault

Oh spare some tarmac councillors

And workers to repair

The thousand potholes in our town

Before we all despair
