December
It’s December - feeling cold
‘Stay warm and safe,’ so I’ve been told
The ice is on the window pane
When will I be warm again?
Hot water bottle. That’s the trick
My hands are cold. I’m feeling sick
A single candle for a fire
It’s central heating I desire
Sitting in a hat and coat
An ancient scarf around my throat
A bowl of soup, a cup of tea
That should be enough for me
It’s nearly seven. Off to bed
The woolly hat still on my head
I slide onto a chilly sheet.
I keep my socks upon my feet
I pull the blankets to my chin
Growing old? It seems a sin
I leave the light on in the hall
A Merry Christmas to you all
