When fishing and you see a shrew
Here's a thing you shouldn't do
Leave your rod beside your chair
As though you didn't have a care
And try to video the creature
So that it can be a feature
On your Facebook news feed thread
You hear a whirr. It's what you dread!
Your rod flies into murky water
A carp's revenge! You really oughtta
Take your bait out of the lake
To leave it in 's a great mistake
While videoing small wild life
The end result is certain strife
The carp? It must have been a stonker
I felt like a proper plonker
The float began to reappear
I managed to retrieve my gear
With line and reel and hook and float
I'm chuffed. I know I shouldn't gloat
So here is what you shouldn't do
Don't get distracted by a shrew
Or you will learn to rue the day
And see your tackle drift away
