Flats

They've built another block of flats
Such architectural misery
It's time to cram more people in
To overcrowded Leigh on Sea.
More cars to jam the busy streets
More bars and beauty salons too
More parking problems in the streets
Who let these applications through?
Such unimaginative blocks
That blight the skyline of the place
Will there be flats on every street?
Is this the future that we face?
Will every old house in the town
With wooden doors and welcome mats
Be developed, God forbid,
As leasehold, bijou, mini flats?
The town is sinking from the weight
Of towers that loom forbiddingly.
Let Leigh on Sea retain its charm
Save us from mediocrity.
